Dropbox is designed with multiple layers of protection, including secure data transfer, encryption, network configuration, and  application-level controls that are distributed across a scalable, secure infrastructure.

Encryption in transit. Dropbox uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)/ Transport Layer Security (TLS) for data transfer, creating a secure  tunnel protected by 128-bit or higher Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. Encryption at rest. Files are stored using 256-bit AES encryption.  Data is split into individual discrete file blocks, each encrypted for  storage using an AES-256 cipher.

Dropbox, our data centers, and our managed service provider undergo regular third-party audits (e.g., SSAE 16 SOC 1,SOC 2, and ISO 27001), and our SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 3 reports are available for review.
